HERKIMER COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE STANDS WITH REMINGTON ARMS WORKERS
Committee Notes Democratic Party Tradition of Fighting for Workers Rights
The Herkimer County Democratic Committee shares community outrage at actions against workers by the Remington Outdoor Company. The company fired 585 workers, then yanked their healthcare, accrued vacation and severance pay, despite those terms in union-negotiated contracts. Picket lines outside the plant are forming this week.
Committee Chair Arlene Feldmeier states “this is an insult to our entire community. Remington Arms workers are our family, friends and neighbors. We Democrats will be out there proudly supporting their cause.
Democratic candidates are slated to join the picket line. These include Congressman Anthony Brindisi, who has a 90% AFL-CIO score of voting with working people. In contrast, his Republican opponent, Claudia Tenney, has a 30% AFL-CIO score. Democratic State Senate Candidate Jim Barber also promises to be there marching with the workers.
Remington Arms workers are represented by the United Mine Workers of America, AFL-CIO, Local 717.
