OPERATION CANDY CANE COLLECTS

GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Herkimer County Democratic Committee Supports Effort Sponsored By Herkimer County Hunger Coalition

Little Falls: In this holiday season, soldiers and military families arrive at Syracuse Airport, most traveling to Fort Drum. At the airport’s military welcome center, the Cpl. Gregory Harris Courtesy Room, small gifts are needed to spread cheer.

Committee Chair Arlene Feldmeier comments “For service members and their families, moving from base to base is a way of life. That’s challenging under any circumstance, but especially challenging during the holidays. That goes double for kids. Let’s all support Operation Candy Cane and give them a friendly welcome.”

Gifts for children should be UNWRAPPED. Here are some ideas: pjs, slippers, hats, gloves, board games, action figures, infant toys, dolls, stuffed animals.

Gifts for adults should be wrapped and labeled “for a man” or “for a woman”. Here are some ideas:

thermal wool hats in black or gray, thermal hunting socks, thermal gloves, AA and AAA batteries, hand and foot warmers, puzzle and crossword books, manicure sets, chap sticks, decks of cards, hand held games, gift cards to Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds. Any liquids must be 3 ounces or less.

Here’s how to donate: bring your gifts to a drop-off box at: MOVAC, 15 NY-5S, Mohawk; the Little Falls City Clerk’s Office, 659 E. Main St #3, Little Falls and The Medicine Shoppe, 10 Central Ave. Ilion. A volunteer will collect them and deliver them to the airport on or about December 10.
